El Camino: Sorrow to Hope

Donation protected

Ben was my only sibling and our relationship was incredibly strained. A boy of dazzling potential, skill, and charm, Ben lived an adult life often plagued by loss, disappointment, and addiction. I loved him, but I waited for years for him to emerge from the abyss so I could gain back the boy who called me Sis and the man who would be my children's uncle.

On Monday, April 30th, m
y mother called: Ben was found in his trailer earlier that night, deceased - apparently of an accident on Friday, April 27th.

Pilgrims walk to Santiago for different reasons - fitness, adventure, to think. I walk for these reasons, and to nurture my prayer life, to practice my faith -- to offer my efforts for Ben.

So, on September 27th, the five-month anniversary of Ben's death, I embark on the 500-mile Camino de Santiago across Spain, in the footsteps of millions of other pilgrims who have walked for over a millennia to find themselves and their futures. I'll carry Ben's memory close to my heart, and release his pain at FInisterre, Spain.
