Eddie Rides for Troop 99

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,

On May 6th I will be riding in the TD Five Boro Bike Tour to raise money for Brooklyn Boy Scout Troop 99. My sons Gus and Jake are members of Troop 99 and I have the pleasure of serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster.

Troop 99 meets at St. Athanasius church and the Troop has been in existence for over 100 years. While much of scouting has stayed the same over the years, some things have changed. Today, scouting is an all-inclusive organization that is open to all youth and honorable adult volunteers. Children with special needs often find a home in scouting when other programs might not fit their needs.

As an Eagle Scout, scouting is near and dear to my heart. Scouting provided me with invaluable components of my overall education. Scouting taught me to be self-sufficient, prepared, and it taught me the leadership skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. Scouting fostered my love and appreciation of the outdoors, and taught me the importance of protecting our natural environment. Scouting also taught me to be a good citizen of this nation.

Scouting is a volunteer ran organization that only exists because of youth and adult leaders who “give back”. Each and every scout, youth and adult, operates under the mandate that we shall give back to scouting what we have gained from scouting. What I have gained from scouting cannot be measured, and now it is my turn to give back to the youth of Troop 99.

Camping and the outdoors is the primary mechanism that scouting utilizes to develop leadership and self-sufficiency in youth. As my way of giving back, I have a self-imposed mandate to further develop the camping, outdoor, and youth leadership programs of Troop 99. In order to obtain my goals, Troop 99 needs updated troop and individual equipment.  This is where I need your help. I am trying to raise enough money so that I can outfit each scout with the equipment necessary for camping, backpacking, and outdoor activities. I’m also trying to refresh the troop’s equipment so we can effectively organize into youth lead, independently functioning groups. In scouting, this is called the “patrol method”.

This fundraiser means a lot to me, and I cannot tell you how much I would appreciate any donations, small or large, that you can provide. I would also greatly appreciate it if you would share this post with your friends and family. Each and every person that donates will receive a thank you letter from Troop 99.

Thank you,

Eddie Harmon
