HELP MY DAD/Vietnam Vet NAVY Seabee

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Sharon Nolan. My Dad (Ed Nolan) is 73 years old and was in the Vascular ICU since June 5th. He was in the hospital for a total of 7 WEEKS. He had an abdominal bypass on top of a previous bypass. During his hospital stay, he coded blue and they worked on him for 14 minutes and they sucessfully revived him. However, unfortunatlely he suffered a stroke during the code. He now has to learn how to walk and write again.  I JUST FOUND OUT TODAY that his UNITED HEALTH CARE RUNS OUT IN AUGUST.  PLUS, THE VA TURNED DOWN MY DAD!! THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT HE'S "TOO WEAK." The weakness is due to his surgery AND THEY REQUIRE HIM TO HANDLE 3 HOURS OF PT.
My Dad has served 2 tours in the Vietnam as a Navy Seabee. (Charlie Company) He was in the Navy from 1960 to the end of 1968. In Vietnam, he lived in the village with the people instead of the barracks. He ate their food and drank from their well water. Like many others, he was exposed to Agent Orange & has PTSD from the war. He turned down the purple heart twice and asked his corman to fix him up so he could keep fighting and building. He trained alongside the Marines and served our country for 9 years (including the reserves.) He was also a lead member of our local American Legion on Long Island.
Ed has been a master carpenter all his life and was working everyday up until the very day when I had to call 911. A native of Brooklyn New York, he went all over the world in the Navy and also worked hard in NYC on many skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.

The hospital took his breathing tube out and gave him a tracheostomy. At first he could only communicate with us through blinking. Then he was able to shake his head slightly for yes and no questions. This will be a long healing process. He was in severe pain and it was a delicate balancing act on trying several antibiotics. He couldn't move his limbs at one point.
Now he is able to speak and is currently in an inpatient rehab facility. UPDATE:THE TRACH IS OUT AND HE CAN SPEAK FINE!! ALSO, WITH THE HELP OF THE PARALLEL BARS, HE IS WALKING WITH A WALKER!!!! He is working on his fine motor skills, like writing his name.

The doctors tell us that it will be a long road to recovery. This has been a VERY HARD emotional roller coaster for the entire family.
Bottom line: He needs financial help to cover all of his medical bills. I have never done this before, but I have heard that others have been successful with it. PLEASE HELP SAVE MY DADDY! My Mom & Dad have been married for over 47 1/2 years. He has 2 daughter's (me being one of them) and 5 Grandchildren. He is my inspiration and my hero. PLEASE GIVE WHATEVER YOU CAN. Every dollar counts.
Sincerely, Sharon Nolan
