Earthquake in Mexico
On behalf of Mexican Cultural Expression National Society (MECENAS), we invite you to donate to help those affected by the recent earthquakes in Southern and Central Mexico. On September 7th, a magnitude of 8.2 earthquake devastated several regions in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas. On September 19th, a second quake, this time a magnitude of 7.1, hit Morelos, Puebla, Estado de Mexico, Ciudad de Mexico and Guerrero. In this short time, hundreds of people have lost their lives and thousands of families and communities have been left without homes. MECNENAS along with it's partners have been able to collect several tons of foods and medical supplies that are being sent to the communities affected. Some other goods have been donated to the Puerto Rican Community in Sunset Park and it will be shipped to Puerto Rico. Our organization are making sure that the donations are being given hand to hand to the families in need.
While we continue the effort in collecting goods, we ask the public to PLEASE donate. We have learned that food is not enough, the families need shelters to keep themselves safe while the homes are being rebuilt. Our goal is to provide temporary shelter (military style) to the homeless in the rural areas affected, those places that are not been reported in the news, and those places have not been given enough help or have not received any help at all!
As we face this tragic situation, our collaborators and friends call on the community to close ranks and combine all efforts in support of the many victims of the recent earthquakes. Only together can we gather the strength to help our Mexico and Puerto Rico! Please help this coalition of community groups, families and individuals willing to create a bridge between the US and Mexico.
MECENAS is a non-profit organization that promotes Mexican art and culture in the Tristate area. We support education initiatives that contribute to the development and integration of the Mexican Community and all Latino Communities. MECENAS will share half of the funds to Puerto Rico.
