Ears for Arabella , Help Make this Little girls Dream Come true
Arabella Carter has bilateral microtia atresia and we are fundraising to get enough money for a surgery in the United States ( we live in northern Canada ) that will create her some outers ears . When you don’t have your outer ears, you don’t have the ability to transport sound and so basically your ears are like a megaphone.
Born three months premature and only weighing three pounds, Arabella, who is now four, has already shown her fighting spirit.
She was in the Nicu for three months -- 72 days to be exact. She was (G-tube fed) through her stomach for the first two and a half years of her life. Plus on oxygen till age 1 .
“The doctors all told us she would not walk, talk or eat by mouth, to date we're excited to say she's doing it all!
Since she has no outer ears, Arabella cannot hear without the help of a bone anchoring hearing apparatus (BAHA). The family is working with the Elks club to get her a second BAHA. She currently wears 1 , on the top of her head .
Why are we seeking assistance ? Because the government doesn't consider Arabella disabled . They haven't cover her hearing aid , beacause it's a bone anchoring hearing apparatise . A non traditional hearing aid of sort .
Arabella cant hear if she doesn’t have her Baha , She doesn’t get disability and they don’t recognize her as hearing impaired either . Very questionable since she doesn't have ears .
We are continuing to make our case to the government we also know what we need to do for Arabella .
Our daughter deserves to hear , with or without the governments help.
Why give her ears ?
Ears will give her Arabella the ability to wear glasses, confidence in learning , a possible option to hear better, and strength to over come adversity .
What are we fundraising for :
To travel to the usa and undergo medpor surgery .
The surgeries are going to help us actually give arabella external ears. Canada does a rib graft surgery but they actually take out her ribs and then they mold the ribs to make the ears. That (would take) four to seven surgeries per side.
If they do that surgery , from our research there is a good chance that she can’t do any contact sports and will have pain for the rest of her life . We want to take her to the USA because they don’t have to take her ribs out and it is one surgery per side.
The surgery will cost about $65,000 to $67,000 canadain per ear, plus travel expenses.
Donations are obviously appreciated but prayers for Linken and Arabella are hoped for as well.
We need prayers for her recovery, prayers for Linken because this will be very hard on him and prayers for our family just to get through the surgeries.
