To anyone and everyone who comes across this fundraiser, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts, for caring for our Dad, Billy Gore. Just the fact that you are here means you are checking in and staying up to date, and we cannot tell you how much it means to see all of the people thinking about him, praying for him, visiting, and sending their love.
We (my sister Sarah and I) want you to know that neither of us are really comfortable with fundraisers, but so many of you are looking for ways to help and support, that we wanted to give you a way. It is also very hard to share needs like this and to know how to respond when people have so kindly asked what we need. Bear with us as we try to be open in this way and allow people to come alongside us on this journey. I think we get it from our Dad, but it is a lot easier for us to give to others than it is to receive.
Financial needs:
My sister and I are trying to keep financial costs as low as we possibly can, but we both live and work a state away in Florida. We will budget our own personal money as well as we can to be with Dad as much as possible, but as this is a long process, we do not have any idea what the costs will be going forward. Our costs so far have been for travel (plane tickets), food, and hotel so that we are able to stay right near the hospital. In the future, we may stay with family about an hour away, but this first week especially was a scary one and we had to be right with him while decisions were being made quickly and many unexpected things were happening. I will be going back to work Monday 7/24 and Sarah will be staying through next weekend 7/31 to be here for Dad's surgery and recovery, but we will both be back probably multiple times. The frequency of travel all depends on what his plan of care turns out to be and how he is doing, but this journey will be months long. We know there are many family members and friends who will fill in and be there for daddy no matter what, but we want to be there for him personally as much as we can, as well as be able to come alongside those people who will be there for him when we're not.
As far as Dad's financial needs, we are not sure of what his medical bills will be like, but my sister and I are working on making sure his personal bills are taken care of while he is out of work and unable to take care of them himself. We want him to come home to the best circumstances possible and not have to worry about those things. We know it will hurt him enough not being able to go back to work like he used to.
Please know that if you are not able to give financially, your thoughts, prayers, and love are more than enough. This is simply here for those who have asked for a way to give, we want to give you a way. These donations will strictly be used for family support and Daddy's well being. If anyone would like to give in person, or in another way, we absolutely welcome that.
