East Greenwich Public Schools are excited to announce a unified partnership to raise much needed funds for school districts recently devastated by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. As of 9/27/17 we have decided to include schools in Puerto Rico as receivers of a portion of our funds. In all three cases proceeds will go to school foundations with verified US tax identfications.
Many of our schools are also running student lead drives at the building level. This is happening to further connect students with the cause. Watch for individual communications from your child’s school. Student collected funds will be donated to our GoFundMe site as well.
One reason many families move to East Greenwich is for the sense of community in our schools. Imagine if your child’s school was suddenly rendered unusable by a natural disaster, eliminating the option to head off each morning to the place your child looked forward to spending his or her days with friends. Our goal is to help schools impacted by the storms get back on their feet as soon as possible.
In reaching out to districts in Texas and Florida we have learned that most would prefer funds over goods at this point. Donations will go to the Houston Independent School District and a mirror district in Florida, yet to be named. Dollars allow the districts to make rapid, informed decisions to get buildings open and students back to the routines and learning that can provide stability when it is needed most.
We are looking to raise $5,000 or more. Just a couple of dollars from each of our families will easily put us over this target. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's principal. We are here to answer questions.

As the East Greenwich Public Schools representative who set up this page, I want to let you know that all of our administrators and staff are supportive of this effort. GoFundMe has requested an identified representative of the district be a part of this message and also that this representative clarify our withdrawal plan.
Our plan is to have the EG School Department withdraw the funds. All funds will then be dispursed by the school department to the educational organizations/funds in the disaster zones. As mentioned above we are looking towards the Houston Independent School District fund in Texas and now a southern Florida district to be named after we confirm the legitimacy of the district foundation(s) we are researching. With all of the devistationand potential for fraud, we are being cautious. Thank you again for all of your efforts!
