Dylan's Volunteer Trip

Dear Family and Friends,
I am excited to share with you all that I have been given the opportunity to travel to Jacmel, Haiti from May 16th to May 23rd, 2015 as part of a service learning initiative! I will be embarking with a non-profit organization called Community Coalition for Haiti (CCH) and will be assisting anesthesiologists and gynecological surgeons in both their pre-op/post-op evaluations of patients and in surgery. Community Coalition for Haiti has been serving the medical needs of Haiti since 1989 and has since then constructed a comprehensive medical clinic that allows clinicians to provide the Haitian population with free specialty surgical care that is normally not available in the country. In addition to surgical care, over the past 26 years CCH has cared for over 20,000 patients in it’s primary care clinic, developed a Child Wellness Program to educate about hygiene, nutrition, vaccinations, and athletics, established a rural vaccination program, and is currently in the process of building a full time Dental Clinic. For the nearly 10 million inhabitants—around 75% of the country’s population—that live on less than $2 a day, free clinics established by programs like CCH are the only means of receiving desperately needed medicines and healthcare treatment. It is my hope to donate a week of my time to helping the CCH clinic run as smoothly as possible, infuse the Haitain community with my knowledge and kindness, and grow as a more compassionate individual and future health care professional.
The only obstacle I need to overcome now is the cost of the trip: $2000. Any amount that you can donate to cover travel, housing, and food expenses would be greatly appreciated!
