Honoring Dr. McElroy's Legacy

Dr. Frederick McElroy was a friend, mentor, confidant, and supporter of hundreds of thousands of students during his time as a tenured faculty member at Indiana University. While he taught within the African-American and African Diaspora Studies Department (AAADS),  Dr. McElroy also touched the lives of students across every discipline and major at Indiana University.  Students who took  his classes, or just met him informally through campus events, were touched by his provocative insights, his elegant mind, and his generous spirit. He was “a large, sweet soul.”

As a way to celebrate the legacy of a legend, we are requesting that Indiana University alumni make a financial donation to the IU AAADS Department in order to support future students and department activities so that more students may continue to feel the impact and embrace of the academic department Dr. McElroy knew and loved. 

Please donate any amount, but also leave a testimonial of Dr. McElroy's impact on your life in the comments section of this page. All donors will receive a tax receipt reflecting the direct transfer of money from GoFundMe to the Indiana University Foundation account of the AAADS Department upon completion of the campaign.
