Doug Buchmann Medical Expense Fund

In 1993, Doug was diagnosed with stage 5 Hodgkin’s cancer at the age of 26. Doug received six months of chemotherapy and his cancer went into remission. In spring 2009, Doug went in for an appendectomy and during the procedure they discovered tumors on his colon. He was diagnosed with colon cancer. At the same time, Doug and his wife Ginger found out they were expecting their first child. This was a blessing since Doug was told that he would never have children as a result of the chemo he received earlier.

Doug received surgery to have part of his colon removed followed by six months of chemotherapy. In January 2010, Doug and Ginger were blessed with a baby boy, Nolan James. The cancer returned a few months later. He then decided to get a second opinion and was diagnosed with appendix cancer. The colon surgery and chemo he received were for a cancer he did not have.

Doug started chemotherapy again for appendix cancer. In February 2012, he received Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), known as a “hot chemo bath.” The surgery involves filling the abdominal cavity with chemo drugs that have been heated. It's one of the most invasive cancer treatments available. Following the surgery, he received another chemo treatment.

Less than one year later, the cancer returned and Doug received another “hot chemo bath” surgery in February 2013. This was followed up with another round of chemo from May 2013 to February 2014. The surgery and chemo treatment were unsuccessful and the cancer is now spreading and is in his lungs and heart.

Anyone who knows Doug, knows that he is always the first person to offer help and is the last person to ask for help. Doug is an amazing father, a caring and compassionate husband, a devoted son, a wonderful brother and a great friend to many. Let’s show him how much we care. Please consider making a donation to help with the expenses that they have and will continue to incur from medical bills and loss of work. This has been a huge huge burden on Doug and his family and if we can help him in any way, I know it will be greatly appreciated. Please consider making a donation and keep Doug, Ginger and Nolan in your prayers.
