Doris Tyler Medical Expenses

Most of you know that Mom has been dealing with age-related macular degeneration for the past decade. She’s been enduring monthly injections in her eyes, which, as you can imagine, is not pleasant. That medicine attempts to slow vision loss by drying up the blood from abnormal blood vessels behind the retina. It worked pretty well for several years, but has not been as effective lately (at her last appointment the doctor said there was more fluid in her right eye than he had ever seen).

AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration) is a black blob in the center of the eye, so her sight is very limited. Actually, she is considered legally blind. Even the most basic things like reading & watching tv have become incredibly difficult & she has had to learn new ways to do the things she loves most like playing piano, cooking,  going to baseball games & spending time with her kids & especially her grandkids.

Recently mom & dad have been researching other alternatives. After talking to a friend about this, their friend loaned them a book titled The Stem Cell Revolution. After reading the book, mom & dad began to look for the nearest doctor in the Cell Surgical Network that treated macular degeneration. Dad found one in Atlanta.

The doctors in the Cell Surgical Network harvest belly fat from the patient and process it in a centrifuge to extract the stem cells. We want to stress that the stem cells would come from mom, not embryos or some other source. When those stem cells are intravenously injected into the patient, they travel through the vascular system in search of damaged tissue which activates the stem cells to begin the regeneration process.

We hope, at the least, this procedure will eliminate the need for the monthly injections and improve her vision even if slightly. The absolute best outcome would be a full cure of her AMD.

The procedure is relatively expensive, especially for retired school teachers like mom & dad - $9,000. Several people have suggested we ask friends and family for help by contributing through a site like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if you feel like you can only spare a few dollars. Those few dollars could add up to really help.

The whole Tyler family thanks you in advance for your concerns, your prayers, and your support and we hope to be able to share our successes with you in the near future. I know you all would agree that mom deserves every possible chance to improve her vision and even the possiblilty that this will work is worth every penny.

If you would like to know any more information, don't hesitate to contact Scot, Matt, Patrick or even mom & dad directly.
