We wanted to give you an update on Donna and thank those again who have donated and are planning on donating. She has had tests done to see if the stage IV colon cancer has spread and unfortunately it has to most of her body including her abdomen and pelvic area. Her next step is to have pathology slides taken from MD Anderson so UTMB Hospital can review and hopefully determine the origin of where the cancer started. She still has not received any treatment, yet her condition worsens.
Earlier this year before her cancer diagnosis she weighed her options and for the first time ever she chose not to get health insurance and take the penalty assessed by law because of the costs. Financially, it just made sense at the time. She has been healthy prior so she thought it would be fine. As of today she waits on one last little bit of hope that may get her treatment which is a program through UTMB called Casebook. It is a physician referral program that they are waiting to hear back from. Their biggest hurdle is to beg them and prove to them that she is WORTH the treatment. That just because she has tumors everywhere doesn’t mean she has to give up on fighting the cancer.
One doctor told her and Jenna that if she doesn't get approved they won’t be able to help her. This is absolutely insane that this amazing woman won’t be able to get the lifesaving treatment she needs because she doesn’t have insurance.
We hope you will continue to share this GoFundMe page to help her with the upcoming mounting medical bills to ensure she beats this disease. Without insurance it will make it incredibly difficult for her to get the best care. We know she and Jenna have a lot of amazing and caring friends and family that want to help, which they are incredibly grateful for. We’ll continue to update this page when we have more news. Please continue to keep Donna, Jenna and their family in your prayers.
Hi everyone, We wanted to start a GoFundMe page to help Donna Westbrook with her medical bills in her fight against stage 4 colon cancer. In early July 2017, Donna thought she had a bad stomach virus and after nearly two weeks of testing she received the diagnosis.
Throughout the years she has gone through many things in her life but she has always been a strong, selfless, loving, caring mother and friend. They will need all of the prayers and any financial donations to help her beat the cancer. Donna, her daughter Jenna and family really appreciate any amount of donation and prayers. We will be updating this page on Donna's treatments and how she's doing through all of it when possible.
Thank you very much to all of Donna and Jenna's family and friends for the love and support!
