Donald L. Burton Scholarship Fund

Donation protected
This fund will set up an endowment for the Donald L. Burton Veterinary Student Scholarship to assist students interested in working with wildlife in attending the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association’s Annual Symposium.  The scholarship will be awarded annually to a vet student who has best demonstrated a desire to help wildlife and met the grant requirements. The recipient will receive funding to cover the cost of symposium registration, travel, and hotel accommodations, plus a stipend for meals.

Dr. Donald Burton dedicated his life to helping wildlife.  His contributions to the field of wildlife rehabilitation are immense.  The Ohio Wildlife Center, founded by Dr. Burton in 1984, has provided humane veterinary treatment for more than 100,000 wild animals, and has allowed thousands of volunteers to gain hands-on experience with wildlife.

Dr. Burton was diagnosed with ALS In March 2014, and passed away November 18, 2014.  This scholarship is a fitting way to honor Dr. Burton for his contributions to wildlife medicine, and will allow his passion of helping  sick and injured wildlife to live on forever.

“My work has not been for recognition.  It comes from a heartfelt passion to make a difference for wildlife – to give native wildlife a voice.”
