Don's Heart Transplant

Hi, a little about myself, I’ve always been the donor, sponsoring youth and high school sports, funding mission trips to Africa, India and South America. A big supporter of the American Red Cross having donated over 16 gallons of blood. I build a home for the Scott family for the ABC show “Extreme Makeover Home addition” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-0qfNNV31g) and got the tea shirt and black hard hat to prove it.  I’ve been a big supporter of the Habitat for Humanity home program, having built 3 homes for three different families and worked on several others, A big supporter of the Sheriff’s Department for their annually school clothing campaign and Toys for children at Christmas. Along with the Annual Toy run sponsored by the BWC (Bikers who care).

Now my problem, I survived a heart attach in August 2016 with the help of a friend a very knowledgeable nurse and God. My wife was told I would be severely brain damaged and had been dead for 20 minutes. My heart attack was unusual in that there wasn’t a blockage. The electrical system part of my heart just quit beating. Over the past 20 months I’ve been under the care of the Doctors at Vanderbilt Medical with two trips to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota trying to find the cause of my problem. In November of 2017 I was put on the heart transplant list, an appeal was requested, and my status was raised to a 1B which is a higher status than most heart transplant patients. I was also told at that time I wouldn’t live a year without a transplant. Its been over four months and hopefully a donor will be found. Being sick is expensive and I could use some help. Having always been the giver makes it hard to ask so I do it for my family’s sake.
