Domestic Violence Hero becomes Victim

On November 17, 2013 at approx. 8pm Ryan Doyle was grilling in his backyard when he heard commotion coming from the front of his house. Ryan went around to the front of his home and witnessed a young man and a young women in the middle of an escalating and aggressive domestic dispute. Being an older brother to a younger sister, and a son with a mother, Ryan did what any REAL man would do and approached the couple to try and put an end to the fight. Unexpectedly the man pulled a gun on Ryan. Seeing this, Ryan ran for cover and found himself hiding behind a palm tree on his front lawn. The man walked right up and shot Ryan in the leg while his girlfriend looked on screaming "NO don't do it!" and then the man fled to a near by house. Ryan crawled into his front door and tore the belt from his waist and tightened it around his thigh to act as a tourniquet until his roommate Derek could assist him on stopping the blood from pouring out of his leg. Derek played a huge role in saving my brothers life. Derek called 911 immediately. Thank God for quick thinking before the shock of the horrific event set in.

Because of Ryan's natural instinct to protect a female, he was assaulted and took the brunt of this man's anger and rage onto himself. We can all hope to have a truly good person around to protect us like he did for this stranger in need. Ryan was rushed to the hospital and put into surgery immediately. The first of many to come. The bullet shattered his left femur and severed his femoral artery. To date, Ryan has undergone 3 surgeries to his left and right legs to reconstruct along with adding a rod in place of the bone he lost. Although the initial injury was in the left leg, the right one was needed to share the artery and return blood flow. Because of the trauma to his body, Ryan was entirely swollen and unrecognizable when his parents could finally make it out from Massachusetts to be by their son's side. To make matters worse, he has also developed a blood clot in his knee and had an allergic reaction to the nickel in the hundreds of staples in both legs. This will be a long road to recovery for this HERO.

Ryan is a salesman, and if you don't know him personally you can tell within the first few minutes of talking with him. He has a huge personality and is full of life. If he can't make you laugh then no-one can! This incident happened the night before he was to switch jobs and therefore he didn't have active health insurance at the time like many of us can relate to.

We are asking for donations to help Ryan pay for hospital bills, and also pay his rent and utilities. Every penny counts and is appreciated. Let's help this local HERO through this difficult time.

( and if you're wondering about the kid that shot him? He's in jail on $100,000 cash bail where hopefully he stays for a very long time to come! )
