What can I say? I've lived, I've loved, I've laughed and now it's time I pay attention and learn the lessons this segment of my life is offering up to me 'cause it's a doozy!

There's no easy way to announce to the world that after two decades, a relationship has ended. And when the end doesn't come as sweetly as intended or hoped for, well... it makes things a bit more difficult to explain. I guess it's because in many ways, I'm still trying to understand and process the situation in order to achieve closure.

When Terri decided it was time to move on, seems everything else moved on too. The most heart tugging was the loss of access to sweet kitty, Nadja but also gone were the more practical things we come to take for granted such as a place to live and a reliable source of income. Since 2006, my main source of income was working for Terri and her real estate appraisal biz. DJ'ing was a means by which I used to make a pretty good living, but that was some years ago. (Promoters, feel free to take advantage of my emotionally-driven state of inspiration...) ;-)

So why a Dina Dragn'fly fundraising page? Well as you know, this 2013 was a big year for gay marriage rights and while Terri & I never officially "tied the knot", our being registered as Domestic Partners for 11 years with the State of California meant we had "the same rights, protections, and benefits" as a married couples. On the flip-side it also meant we had to end our relationship by way of dissolution, aka divorce. In the end, the "mindful divorce" session, the counseling, the talks of mediation, property settlement agreements and neutral 3rd parties went the way of the wind and instead of being able to focus on moving forward, I found myself instead needing to focus on acquiring solid legal counsel. It was an unexpected (and quite expensive) additional expense and the one that finally forced me into the position of reaching out to all of you.

Despite the negative connotations of divorce and the additional legal dealings, I honestly don't hold any anger or ill will towards Terri. The legal stuff is, to me, like business. On the personal tip, I'll always have a spot in my heart and soul where Terri once resided. I couldn't spend 1/2 my life with someone and ultimately think otherwise.

So there's the story. I thank any and all who take the minute to read, empathize and if able, contribute towards this cause.

Thanks all!
xoxo
