It Takes Guts! Dezi's Fund

Deslin has a trait  inherited through genetics. He is a 12 year old very active boy who for the next coming weeks will be undergoing removal of his colon due to the aggressiveness of the polyps found in his colon.

Our journey began with a visit to the doctor that identified he was very anemic. His hemoglobin level was a 3.8. (It should be atleast a 12) After many tests on his heart, the next step was to determine where the blood loss was happening. His stool sample came up positive for blood. We were referred to a GI doctor and a Hematology/Oncology doctor at the Children's Hospital in Kansas City. He was scheduled for a endoscopy and a colonoscopy. During the procedure they found massive amounts of polyps covering his entire colon. The FAP trait is progressive and if not treated or handled turns into cancer as early as his teenage years. Removing his colon will eliminate any cancer or fear of cancer and the repeat of growth of polyps throughout Deslins life.

He will have surgery to remove his colon and use his smaller intestine to re-route. Our bodies are amazing. The smaller intestine will learn within time how to serve and act as his colon. He may need a colostomy bag for the first couple of weeks; however, it will not be a long term need they are saying with the type of procedure they do with today's medicine.

The polyps are aggresive and the need to do surgery is immediate. We will be scheduling for the surgery to take place within the week or next. We will update the dates when scheduled. We will be in the hospital for atleast a week after surgery and then will be home for atleast 2 weeks before being able to return to school and myself to work.

This fund is being set up to help with the costs of medical, travel, and other needs during this time. We appreciate any help and have a very optimistic look at the outcome. Any amount, no matter how small, will help, not to mention continued prayers, positive energy and healing vibes.

Thank you for helping Deslin with his journey while dealing with FAP.
