TWO broken legs (fractured tibial bones)!!
Devin Kirby is 16 years old, 6'10", a Junior from Basha High School, and a very promising basketball star. On 12/30/14, Devin was playing in the varsity championship game of a holiday tournament. He got tangled under the basket with an opponent as he attempted an alley oop. Devin went down on both legs and ended up with two broken legs (two fractured tibial bones). He must keep both legs extended at ALL times and will be in a wheelchair for 6 weeks. The family has very limited insurance, and are struggling to find options for his care for the next 6 weeks, as he cannot attend school under these circumstances. There will be many bills for the hospital stay, as well as from the anticipated rehab and physical therapy. Devin is being raised by his mother Michelle (Micky) Kirby, who is a single mother and a teacher. His mother anticipates unpaid leave from work to also help with his care. Maurice Kirby, Devin's older brother is away at college. Michelle is the sole provider and has her mother living with her, who has also been dealing with serious health issues. Devin is a GREAT young man, and his mother's life has revolved around making sure both her sons get a good education and create a successful path in life.
