Destiny Needs a Seizure Service Dog

Donation protected
As most of you all know, I've had a rough year with losing my dad to cancer and the multiple surgeries I've had to go through for myself (due to Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome)

When I was just 18 years old my life changed forever, and not in the way of just becoming an adult. I woke up and was with a friend and had a regular day planned...but that isn't what happened. I had a seizure that lasted 9 minutes. During that time, my heart stopped and my brain had a mini stroke. I was in a coma for 8 days. When I woke up, my life was drastically different. I was confined to a wheelchair due to a spinal injury during the seizure and both hips dislocated. I went to one of the top hospitals in Massachusetts and slowly learned to adjust to life in a wheelchair....and then my life changed again. I began having daily seizures and I didnt have much of a warning before they came...so I was seizing in the middle of stores, in the shower and even nearly drowned one time. My Neurologist set me up with anti-seizure meds..which helped....but not for long. I had another long seizure and my heart couldn't handle it and I had a heart attack.

At that point, they admitted me to a Long-Term Care facility, I couldn't live at home anymore. I was barely 19 and lived in a nursing home. Fast forward 4 years and 9 months...I left the nursing home to live in a group home.

My seizures still happen and interfere with my life on a daily basis.  While they seizures don't happen daily anymore, I live in fear of them happening while out in the community, to a point I'm afraid to be by myself. I still have seizures...but I'm thankful now there is an easier way to deal with them.

I finally have been approved for a service dog! This will be a seizure alert dog (among other things)...but this dog will know well before I do when I'm going to have a seizure and can help me get to a safe place. This dog will also alert staff in the group home if I'm having a seizure while in my bedroom alone. The dog will also be able to brace me both in bed and chair to prevent me from falling out of them while seizing. He can physically brace me.

Now that I'm finally accepted into the program, I need help raising the funds to "put the down payment" and begin training. The process will take up to a year, but the program director is confident in around 9 months.

If you can please donate to help me raise the money I need to so my life can be drastically improved and be able to spend more time out in the community as opposed to in hospitals.  If you have it in your heart to donate, thank you. If you are unable to, I understand, and ask you to please share with your friends and family.

Thank you all!!!
Love,
Destiny
