A Young Life Gone Way Too Soon, Still Gives To Others

What started out as a casual night of sibling togetherness ended as a parent's worse nightmare.

On Nov. 19, 2014 Deshaun Pugh, age 20 and brother, Jonathan, were walking to a store in Laurel, Maryland when they were both struck by a truck.
Tragically Deshaun did not survive, never regaining consciousness.

His brother almost lost a leg and was left with several injuries. Jonathan must now try to recover, learn to walk again, and deal with the loss of his older brother...a young life gone way too soon.

My name is Gwen Tolbart and as a board member and volunteer at Our House, I met Deshaun there, where he adopted the nickname, "Rome" . His easy-going demeanor made it easy for everyone there to connect with him.

Our House , a residential facility near Olney, MD, helps male youth get back on track in life by providing positive guidance, life skills, an academic education, and job skills in carpentry, construction and small engine repair.

The staff and I encouraged and motivated Deshaun towards his goals. As I mentored him, we formed a special bond. Deshaun progressed well academically and effortlessly gained the skills of a seasoned carpenter, making amazing pieces of furniture .
He made me an incredible rocking chair!
Deshaun  loved aviation so I arranged for him to go on a private flight with Outreach Aviation , a non-profit that encourages youth interest in the field.  He was ecstatic! The pilots, impressed with him, placed his photo in a background shot on the front page of their website.

I continued to personally mentor Deshaun after he graduated from  the Our House program and along with his mother encouraged and motivated him.

Deshaun was studying to complete his GED & working two jobs to help his family, and on his way to a great future when he lost his life. Deshaun was a kind and giving young man and his family honored that part of him by donating his organs and tissue so that others may benefit from his life, allowing him to still "give to others".
Please support my efforts to help Deshaun's family with the financial burden and the challenges they bear now with having to bury one son and help get another back to good health.

Any size donation will be greatly appreciated. All funds will be given directly to Deshaun's mother to help ease the strain of her financial costs.

The amount you give does not matter as much as the thought does. Your support to this family devasted by this tragedy will be immeasurable.

Thank-you,
Gwen Tolbart
