Our mother, Denese, had a great mind. She used that extraordinary mind to help people, not knowing the stress of it all could ultimately kill her. In 2009, she was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Cerebritis, an Immune Deficiency disorder. Our mother suffers from brain lesions, extremely painful skin flare-ups, which make her skin break open on her face, severe fatigue, joint pain and swelling, slow organ deterioration and severe headaches. She barely eats or sleeps anymore.
After 26 years of paying into disability, our mother was totally dropped of all coverage from her previous employer which she was denied disability even after social security approved her, in turn led to our family fighting relentlessly over a 4 year period to get it back, however, she was dropped 6 months ago from her employer’s health coverage. Then had to get her own health coverage for our family but the treatments she desperately needs are Benlista infusions and chemotherapy, which stop the disorder from progressing. The problem is that we cannot afford the co-pay. Out of pocket, the treatment cost $6,825 dollars per month (the co-pay). And these last months the Lupus has gotten very bad.
When I walk past my mother's bedroom door, I can hear her sobs. This disorder has strained her relationship with our father and prevented her from being able to enjoy the fruits of her labor. A feeling of hopelessness has taken over her life. She lacks any and all will power. A once invincible woman has been forced to her knees by this disorder. All we're asking for is a chance for my mother to be able to enjoy what she cares about most. We want her to see the good part of life, the part when she can feel like all the good she has done was all worth it. She's the mother of 8 wonderful children, the youngest only being 14, and newly became a Grandma to two beautiful babies. We ask for a chance for her to watch them grow up.
The other night, she told me that she feels like she has no will to keep going with this severe pain. This fundraiser can give her that will. These funds are needed, ideally, as soon as possible, before the Lupus has a chance to progress any further. Thank you in advance. You’re saving our mother!
