Democracy for Tower Hamlets

Standing up for democracy in Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets Mayoral election took place on 22nd May 2014, but the integrity of the election has been undermined, amid widespread concerns and allegations of corruption, fraud, misconduct and intimidation.

Four local residents have therefore taken Mayor Luftur Rahman and Tower Hamlets Council’s Returning officer to court. The residents petition will be heard in a special election court in February 2015, when a judge will decide on the evidence, whether the Mayoral election should be re-run.

The residents who have brought the petitionbelieve the future of democracy in Tower Hamlets and in our Capital city is at stake and that the principle of free and fair elections must be upheld so future elections in Tower Hamlets meet the highest possible standards.

A legal challenge to the Mayoral election is expensive - and Mayor Rahman and Tower Hamlets Council will have access to the best legal support money can buy.

If you believe in democracy and free and fair elections – support the petitioners campaign for honest elections. Your donation will make a difference.
