Reverend Demetrius L. Stewart was 45 years old, approaching his 46th birthday.  He was a very devoted husband of 20 years, and father of two teenage children.  He was a humble gentleman whose passion was for the ministry of Christ and helping others.  He was employed with the Veteran's Administration and served as a Minister at Westside Missionary Baptist Church, St. Louis, MO.

Reverend Stewart was killed on the night of Saturday, February 1, 2019 while in his car preparing to leave a night of fellowship with his wife Shantana and other friends at Tropicana Lanes Bowling Alley, 7960 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights, MO.  While departing the bowling alley to go home for the night, other patrons of the bowling alley had a disagreement and a fight ensued.  The parties involved in that altercation left the building at approximately the same time as Demetrius, his wife, and their companions.Once the people who had been involved in the altercation left the building, a gun was retrieved by an individual, who then fired rounds at one  patron and missed.  Although Demetrius, Shantana, nor anyone in their group of friends had interacted with the shooter at any point during the night, the shooter then fired into the window of Demetrius and Shantana's vehicle, hitting Demetrius.  Demetrius passed away from his wounds approximately 2 hours later.

A separate bank account will be established and 100% of the funds collected will be used solely by the Stewart Family for any necessary expenses due to the passing of Rev. Stewart and for creation of the Demetrius L. Stewart Memorial Scholarshp for high school students.
