Demeter House to The Gambia
Donation protected
Demeter House School is an independent school for boys with social, emotional or mental health difficulties. Many of our students have struggled in mainstream schools as they cannot cope with social situations or have sensory issues that make it difficult for them to cope in large groups or crowds of people.
We are a family-run school with the children at the centre of what we do but we do not receive state funding as we are independent and do not qualify for charity or business funding as we are a school. Therefore, we have to fund raise to enable us to provide specialist equipment for our students.
The students of Demeter House wanted to help raise some money to build a sensory room at the school, to help calm them when they are feeling anxious. However, they also wanted to donate to someone else as part of their efforts and we were approached to help set up a library in a school in The Gambia.
As a result, the whole school has taken on the challenge to collectively walk, run, swim or cycle the equivalent distance between Demeter House and Tallinding Lower Basic School in The Gambia, which is approximately 3500 miles between now and the end of the Summer term. We will have to cover 72 miles per day to hit our target and we have asked friends and families to join in as well!
We need your help to raise as much money as we can in order to build our sensory room and fund the library at Tallinding School in The Gambia, who, like us, have to rely on donations and fundraising to provide anything special for their students. Please sponsor us to go the distance and help motivate us!
