My name is Yenny Alvarado, and I have started this go fund me page for my sister Delcy, who has been diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer (her2+++/+++ 90%). The oncologist recommended 8 cycles of chemotherapy that should start on September the 19th, but due to the generalized crisis affecting Venezuela, those most needed medicines are not available in the public health service.
The drugs required to treat chronic illnesses like the one diagnosed to Delcy are almost impossible to find even through private pharmacies. The patients might remain on waiting lists for months before finally getting their first dose. My sister can’t wait for months, or even weeks, to start receiving the treatment. Every day without it reduces her possibilities of survival.
Nevertheless, there are some private companies in Venezuela and abroad that offer some or all of the drugs at international prices. For Delcy, who is not covered by any insurance company, those prices are impossible to pay. To have an idea of how expensive the treatment is you must know that Delcy’s monthly wages are about US$50 and for each one of the 8 chemotherapy sessions suggested by the oncologist she needs to buy US$1000 in drugs.
Delcy is 46 and has two kids, the oldest, Moises, is now a university student and Sergio, her younger child is only 12. For years she has been working tirelessly to raise her children since her husband passed away in 2006. Currently, she is working as a lab assistant in a private clinic working weekends and night shifts to earn as much as she can and to have time during the day to share with her two sons.
I can’t accept as her Sister and as a Christian, that such a great mother doesn’t get the opportunity to survive her breast cancer only because of lack of money. That is why I am appealing to your heart and generosity.
Please, help me to give my sister Delcy the opportunity to fight for her life, to fight for the opportunity to raise her children. All the funds donated will be used to buy chemotherapy and other medical expenses like the expected mastectomy after ending the chemotherapy, wages not earned and travel expenses, because a person will need to travel from Puerto Ordaz, the city in the south where Delcy lives, to Caracas or Valencia in the north, to transport the medicines, some have to be kept refrigerated.
Please, open your heart and collaborate with whatever the amount you can. Myself, Delcy and her kids will thank you very, very much.
