** DOrunning CIC launches fundraising campaign to provide three new defibrillators to the local community **

The group aims to raise £5,000 for three pieces of potentially life saving equipment.

In April 2018, the DOrunning community was rocked by the sudden cardiac arrest of member James Laverty at one of our weekly sessions. James, who was 25 at the time and had no history of such medical conditions, made a full recovery following treatment and the fitting of an internal defibrillator at Nottingham City Hospital.

While James is now doing well, his experience along with similar, high-profile cases including footballer Christian Eriksen and the tragic passing of local teenager, Dylan Rich, have served a stark reminder that incidents such as this can happen to anyone, at any time.

Now, DOrunning CIC Founder Des Oldham is launching a campaign to raise £5,000 to provide two defibrillators around Trent Bridge – an area popular with activity enthusiasts and regularly attended by thousands of sports fans – and one mobile unit to be used by community groups across Nottingham.

Additional funds will be split between the British Heart Foundation, which does so much fantastic work to support those who experience cardiac problems and our very own CIC, which receives despite the ongoing support we offer the community recives no stauatory income or funding.

Over the coming weeks, DOrunning CIC in association with The Boot Room Bar, Trent Bridge will be offering a host of fundraising activities and further details of an exciting event to conclude the campaign and to unveil the new permanent defibs.

Des Oldham, Founder of DOrunning CIC said: Ever since James suffered a cardiac arrest at the running group I have always wanted to make sure we are in the best possible position should it happen again! Covid-19 temporarily halted what we were able to do but in light of recent events we can no longer wait to make this happen. Encouraging activity and participation in the way we do, we want to make sure that those in our area have 24 access if ever needed.
