"Debbie the Warrior" ... Fight Like A Girl
I'm too young to have cancer. I feel fine. I don't have any symptoms. It must be a mistake, is what you must tell yourself when you find out that the new pain in your abdomen is a mass. The emergency room team tells you --- "It looks like cancer". Quickly whisked off for a barrage of testing, leaving you alone with only thoughts of "what will they find?" After a successful major surgery -- the "C" word is confirmed. Now what? We begin to become aware, this is not a nightmare, it is life changing circumstances none of us plan for. I cannot imagine how scary this is for our lifelong friend Debbie Ortega as her cancer journey begins.

She is a wonderful mother, daughter, wife, sister, aunt and friend and we need to join forces to keep our warrior focused, beat this cancer and get her back on that steel horse with her husband Danny and travel the long open roads to the next wonderful adventure.
My name is Tambi Heines and I'm setting up this GoFundMe on be-half of my childhood friend, Debbie Hart Ortega.
Debbie, her family and close family friends were devasted upon learning the shocking news. Debbie was diagnosed with colon cancer.
This all started a little over a month ago but the pain originated in Deb's hip/groin area. She thought she injured her leg/hip when she jumped off a two and a half foot foundation. Over the next few weeks the pain became so intense that Debbie could not bear weight on her leg. Then on Sunday, April 30th Debbie's pain was so severe that her husband Danny took her to the emergecy room at the hospital near her their home. A CT Scan was performed and a large mass was discovered in her abdomen. Shortly after, Debbie was transported to University Hospital in San Antonio because she required a higher level of medical care. Upon futher examination it was discovered that Deb was septic. This alone is dangerous and can be life threatening and began around the clock treatment with multiple IV antibiotics and two drains were put into a lymph node in her groin. Exploratory surgery was performed on May 3rd and the surgeons discovered Debbie's colon had ruptured due to the size of the cancerous mass. Not only does Debbie have colon cancer but she also had peritonitis due to the ruptured colon. Debbie showed the surgeons, nurses, family and friends, that even though she was pushed into a corner, she is one tough chicka and can fight what is put in front of her. She whipped the peritonitis but she is just beginning the battle against the cancer. She WILL and CAN beat this... because she Fights Like A Girl....
The chemo treatments will soon start, and although covered by insurance will still be costly. Travel expenses, food, and unforeseen expenses will add up quickly.
A great number of Debbie and Danny's friends and family have asked what they can do to help, so on be-half of the Ortega family, and "Debbie's Warrior Sisters" (me, Lori Gandy, Susan Sullivan and Cheryl Anderson), we ask you to join us in our cause to alleviate the expenses anticipated during Debbie's battle. Help us to make that be the least of her worries.
