Deb Wilson's medical fund

In September, 2013 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram. This came as a shock to everyone, both she and my dad were about to move from Nebraska to Florida the very next week. They met with doctors to decide what to do and my mom, stubborn as ever, decided that she was still moving to Florida and would begin treatment here. She went through 6 months of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy. After all of this, in March of 2014 she was declared “cancer free.”  We couldn’t be any happier to hear such amazing news.

Fast forward a little over 6 months later. Mom began having upper back pain. It gradually got worse after about 2 weeks and she decided to go to urgent care. Urgent care then sent her to the ER and it was there that she was told she had tumors in her lungs and spine. Not only had her cancer returned, but it had spread. From there, she went downhill pretty quickly. We had to put her in the hospital for a week just to help her manage the pain. She lost feeling in her legs and was unable to stand or walk due to the tumors on her spine. She began having more and more difficulty breathing and we ended up having to call 911. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and began to gradually improve. It seemed as though she would be able to come home soon. Then just as quickly as things got better, they got worse. She was put on oxygen and became dependent on it to breathe. They decided to begin her chemotherapy while she was in the hospital. After her first treatment, she began to get worse and she was moved to the ICU. After 2 weeks of being in the hospital, and 2 days in the ICU, we made the decision to move her into a Hospice facility. She wanted to come home but because of the level of oxygen that she is on, it is not possible.

When we found out that the cancer had come back, we began to get everything figured out in case things did not go well. While looking over their life insurance, I found out that it was accidental only, meaning that if she dies because of the cancer, they will not pay out. My dad has taken an unpaid leave of absence at work to be with my mom and now he is burdened with the fact that he will have to pay for her funeral expenses by himself. This is not something I want him to have to worry about. I understand that times are rough for many people, and with the holidays here things are even tighter. If you can help by just sharing this with your friends, we would all appreciate it immensely.
