Our dear friend, Deana Attebery, has been diagnosed with multilevel cervical degenerative disc and facet disease and needs your help. Although she has some medical insurance, which she pays for herself, it will not cover the $3000 required for fusing her neck in two different places and cleaning out spurs to make room for the nerves. If she doesn’t receive this treatment, she could lose the use of her arm(s) or even worse.
Deana’s husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2016 and is unable to work at either his job or on their small cattle ranch leaving all the chores to Deana, chores which she can no longer do because of her medical condition. Their only income now comes from selling off the few head of cattle they own plus a little money she earns from making leather goods.
Deana has lived in Idaho all her life raising two sons, one of whom died in 2014 in a horse accident and her faithful dog old collie dog died early in 2018. Her original injury occurred when she was bucked off a colt, landing head first on a pile of rocks and losing consciousness before waking up to a feeling that her neck was stuck. Her latest issues were brought on by moving 20 hay bales that weigh 80-100 pounds each and a yearling filly that “gave me a bit of a pop on the end of a lead rope”. As she told us, “I have been doing way too much heavy work since Scott got sick. Now I can’t do any of it.”
Deana worked for the Forest Services and served her community in numerous ways; driving a school bus, working with the AWANA program, supervising a puppet troupe, working with 4-H kids as a 4-H evaluator, judge and teacher. She is on the “teaching artists roster” of the Idaho Commission of the Arts teaching photography, cowboy culture, and leather tooling. She says, “I go wherever they need me.”
Her situation is dire. Neither Deana or her husband are able to work and their future livelihood is in jeopardy. Please help them by contributing to help pay for Deana’s medical treatment. Thank you.
