Dean Peterson Cancer Support Fund

Donation protected
As you may or may not know, Dean was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) in July of 2015.  This came after already being diagnosed and kicking Prostate Cancer's butt to the curb in 2007.  He has been receiving chemotherapy treatments for MDS, and has had been able to continue with a fairly normal life over that time.  December 26th, 2017, however, Dean received some tough news that the MDS has progressed to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) .

The next steps for Dean are to get a bone marrow transplant or a stem cell transplant from a family member.  Dean is at the beginning of his treatment plan, and all the details aren't set.  He started his potentially multi-month stay in the hospital on January 10th, 2018.  The general outline of how treatment usually works for AML is that they will target the cancer in his bone marrow with strong radiation treatments, then use the donated cells to rebuild the damage to the marrow.

Those of you that know Dean know he is a humble man, and would never ask for your help.  He has shouldered this burden for  years, not wanting to disrupt the lives of his friends or family for his sake.  However, the medical bills are starting to grow, and with this new diagnosis, Dean won't be able to do any construction jobs for the near future.

We, his children, know how many lives our dad has touched over the years through teaching, coaching, his church, riding club, and being an active community member.  We want to give all of you a chance to support him and our mom, Linda, during this trying time.

Beyond medical bills, some of the expenses that Dean and Linda could use this money for:
 - Boarding for his horses.  Dean has two horses, Koda and Gunner.  These horses are theraputic for him.  He loves to spend time with them, has instilled a love of horses in some of his 8 grandchildren, and has taught 'the boys' to pull wagons and sleighs, which he does for the community at various events throughout the year.  We would like to ease the burden of paying to board the horses so Dean doesn't have to sell them.
 - Travel/lodging expenses.  At least part of Dean's treatment will involve a stay down in Milwaukee, likely for a few weeks.  We would like to be able to provide lodging and gas cards for family members that travel down to spend time with him while he is there.
 - Other uses as they come up.  The total treatment plan is unknown, and having any kind of a cushion helps ease the stress of having to adapt to changes in Dean's health and treatment plan as they develop.

Thank you for considering donating to help Dean and Linda during this time.  He's a one-of-a-kind man who has always given love and support to those that need it.  Now we have a chance to support him in his time of need.

We will add updates as we can, but please keep Dad in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you!
