Dean & Debbie Dizon Home Improvements

Donation protected

Hello Family & Friends of Dean & Debbie Dizon,

Update as of 11/14/2012....

Many of you may have already heard that Grace peacefully passed away yesterday morning. She unexpectedly took a turn for the worse last week and was admitted into hospice care last Saturday. Our family was blessed to be by her side, say our goodbyes, and tell her how much we loved her. She was not able to speak, but was able to let us know she was fully aware of what we were saying and why we were gathered around her. We were truly blessed to have this time together and it has brought our family closer together. Grace was the soul of our family and we will miss her so much.

Despite our loss, the fact remains that Dean & Debbie's home is still in need of renovations and many repairs. They have sacrificed so much over the last 4 months in caring for Grace that I would still like to continue this donation drive to help them.

Thank you for your continued prayers for our family and for all your donations as we are touched and deeply moved by your generosity!

As most of you all know the last year and half for my brother Dean and his wife, Debbie have been difficult & hard to say the least. It was just 18 months ago that Dean was diagnosed with throat cancer which took him on a journey of over a year of chemo and radiation treatments, followed by a surgery to remove whatever was left of the tumor during which he lost over 50 pounds and still has no taste buds or saliva glands.

During this time, Debbie struggled to find a full time job with Dean not being able to work and most of her time being consumed as the primary care giver to Dean.

Our family then recently learned in August of this year that Grace, our mother, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer and needed immediate brain surgery to remove the brain tumor. Less than 30 days after this surgery, Grace was rushed back to the hospital with a  perforated colon which has left her with a colostomy bag as well as they left her incision pretty much open which will take at least 6 months to heal. During this time my mother also received 16 radiation treatments for her brain cancer. My mother's medical problems have taken a huge physical toll on her both physically and mentally. My mother is in need of constant healthcare 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

It appears that my mother, Grace, will be living with Dean & Debbie most likely for the rest of her life. Debbie has been a SAINT by being the primary care giver to all of my mother's needs.  I can't begin to tell you how much this has meant to the family and how much Debbie has sacrificed and continues to sacrifice as a result of being there for Grace and showing what love really means.

We thank every one of you for your prayers, meals you may have provided, and all the other acts of kindness you have shown to our family during this time. Many of you continually ask what else can we do for Dean & Debbie? Do they need anything? How can we help? My sister, Tami, and I have been asking ourselves this and we finally have come up with a great way to help Dean & Debbie.

We are looking to make the living arrangements more comfortable at Dean & Debbie's house now that Grace is living with them full time and has special needs due to her health conditions.

The idea is to allow you, our family and friends, to make donations that Dean & Debbie would use to make home improvements. We would like this whole process to be done in secret (if possible) without them knowing because if they found out about it, they would probably ask us to stop. We are also currently in the process of identifying a group of local contractors to be ready so that Dean & Debbie don't have to do anything other than just schedule a time for the contractors to come over, see what has to be done, and then schedule a convenient time for them to do the work.

There appears to be a number of home improvements that could be done at Dean & Debbie's house. For example, their master bathroom shower currently does not work. There appears to have been some work that was done in the past on the shower, but then they had some leak problems and have not used the shower since then. Their back deck could use some work with rotting boards replaced. Their sliding back door needs to be replaced. I think their dishwasher and refrigerator needs to be replaced. His little shed in the backyard could be replaced to allow for more storage or the current one worked on. These are just a few things I know about and I am sure there is other punch out list/handy man things that need to be done around the house.

The overarching point is to make this as easy for Dean and Debbie to not have to manage or think about. It just gets scheduled and done with no worries from them and it's funded by your donations.

Any amount will be greatly appreciated and put to good use. You can leave a comment when you donate and you even have the ability to make an anonymous donation too.

We are planning to present Dean & Debbie with your donations during the Christmas holiday and I'm sure this will be heck of a major Christmas surprise gift!

Blessings,
