Deaflympics 2015 Russia

My name is Troy Benson. I was born with severe hearing loss and still have difficulty hearing to this day. I was very sick as a child and the medicine that made me deaf, saved my life. I was told I would be limited in my abilities as a person and wouldn’t have an equal chance to succeed as a “normal person” would. Turns out, I’ve shocked a lot of people. I’ve accomplished things when I was told I couldn’t. Hockey is one of them. It’s been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. My hearing loss hasn’t slowed me down or deterred my abilities to succeed on the ice. I don’t let it. I’m 24 years old now and I’m still in love with the game. This past August, I tried out for the United States Deaf Olympic hockey team. Recently, I found out I made the team. It’s quite an honor and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this team. We will be traveling to Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, on March 28th through April 5th, 2015. We’ll be competing with 5 other countries for a gold medal. Due to financial difficulties, the players have been asked to help contribute themselves. I never ask for help or anything from anybody but I’ve realized, this is the time I need help. This is the last thing I want to do, but I figured this is the best option right now to get my story out. I am requesting for everyone to find some way to help reach my goal of $2,500. Every dollar and cent counts. This has been a huge goal of mine as I’ve been training for years leading up to this. Help me reach my goal. I promise we will come home with a medal.

The 2015 Winter Deaflympics will be held in Khanty/Maniysk/Mag nitogors (Russia)

This will be the 18th Winter Deaflympics and will run from the 28th of March-5th of April 2015.

The Winter Deaflympics will include competitions in the following sports:
-Curling
-Cross-Counrty Skiing 
-Snowboarding
-Alpine Skiing
-Ice Hockey
