DeMent Ohana Farm Lava Fund

Aloha my name is Katie DeMent and my family and I are from Hilo on Hawaii island.  I am writing to all those who have been following the news of the most recent lava flow of Hawaii island.  Thousands have been displaced and have lost their homes and land to Pele, the mother of nature here in Hawaii. 
This Saturday morning, May 19th, 2018 our family farm and house in the Malama Ki area that Tom and Bill DeMent built was completely covered by the strong Pahoehoe flow that was fast moving. This home is where Tom and his wife Lauren and their two children have lived since 2012
 Endless amounts of love for the land was put into the property over the years by both Tom and Bill with the planting of Ulu, Mango, Avocado and other fruits trees.  This farm was planned to be a source of future income to provide foods to people of Hawaii. Any funds raised here will be used to start over once again with creating a home in Hilo in the formof a new mortgage, insurance, water and electric bills, and new home appliances and furniture. 
The aerial shots posted here are of the house and farm of 20 acres getting covered by Pele. 
We are grateful that our family is safe and all together in Hilo.  Through this time of vulnerability and uncertainty within the entire community of the Puna, we humbly ask for any help you feel inspired to provide. With gratitude and love we thank you for all your concern, thoughts, offers of help and prayers during this time of transition.
