Hi, my name is Ale Bravo, and I’m a Mexican creative producer living in Leek. I’m bringing the Day of the Dead celebration to our town this November – a beautiful and meaningful tradition that honours loved ones who have passed away, through colour, music, art, and community.
This project is very close to my heart, and I’m thrilled to share it here in Leek for the first time.
Unfortunately, the applications for Arts Council funding were put on hold for two months due to technical issues with their portal. This meant I couldn’t access the main source of funding I had planned for the event, making it a real challenge to cover some essential costs.
What your support will help cover:
- Security staff, so the event is safe and welcoming for everyone.
- A trained first aider on site for peace of mind.
- Staff at the Trestle Market to help with logistics throughout the day.
- A children’s area full of free creative activities.
- Basic materials to build a community altar where families can bring photos and offerings.
- A Day of the Dead poetry (also known as calaveritas literarias) workshop with Gabriela Gay.
- A license to show Coco – giving families the chance to enjoy this beloved film together.
- A DJ for a safe, fun, and vibrant party to close the event.
By contributing, you’re helping make this event more accessible, safe, and exciting for families, young people, and the wider community. Every donation – big or small – brings us closer to creating a truly unforgettable celebration of life and memory in Leek.
Thank you so much for your support. I can’t wait to share this special tradition with you all!
