David's Double Lung Transplant Fund
Donation protected
David is getting new lungs! He's been on the donor "wait list" since 2012.
David is 54 and was born with a rare genetic condition called Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Disorder. His hereditary condition has manifested into life-threatening COPD. His late diagnosis at age 35 was determined to be classified genetically as "ZZ" which represents the most severe level of lung tissue destruction. He currently has 17% lung function.
Please help build David's Medical Recovery Fund of $65K
THE GOOD NEWS: David is now at the top of the donor list for Indiana University Health Transplant Department. Doctors have determined he's an excellent candidate for a successful double lung transplant (12 hour surgery).
He is anxiously awaiting that life-changing phone call from IU.
EVEN BETTER NEWS: David's 3-5 month recovery and his outlook on life is both energizing and outstanding. His new lungs will significantly improve his quality of life by allowing him to get back to work and return to the activities of a young healthy adult.
Let's rally and support David for a successful operation and speedy recovery. We can't wait to see him grow in strength and spirit in a stress-free environment.
He has a Recovery Fund Goal of $65,000. This fund will help offset his numerous medical expenses.
HISTORY: During the last 18 years, David has gradually lost his ability to work. He relies on medical oxygen to breath. He was forced to sell his commercial painting business 4 years ago. This reduced his income dramatically and he now relies on Social Security Disability to support himself. He has a mounting medical debt with only Medicare assistance.
A series of pulmonary rehab, special diet, and intravenous treatments 2 times weekly have consumed his life in the past several years. David's quality of life has come to a halt. Basic activities such as walking, bathing, and eating consume all his energy. He is on oxygen therapy 24 hours per day.
WHY THE MEDICAL RECOVERY FUND?
Unfortunately, Medicare has big holes and does not cover all the arduous months of recovery required. Your generosity will go towards his recovery to pay for:
1. Anti-rejection medication for the rest of his life
2. Living expenses while recuperating in Indiana
3. Life flight transportations
4. Medical expenses not covered by Medicare
David feels blessed to have so many friends and supporters. He thanks everyone from the bottom of his heart for their generosity and support.
