Daveon and Davon Kidney Foundation

Donation protected
Daveon Cook (17) and Davon Cook (16) are born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. Raised by their mother Charmaine Upshaw. Both are respectful, intelligent and talented athletes. They play football and run track for Niagara Falls High School and both are lovers of basketball and football. Daveons favorite teams are The Pistons and Panthers and favorite players are Brandon Jennings and Devin Hester. Davon is a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Giants and his favorite players are Kevin Durant and Desean Jackson.

In March of 2013 they had concerns of high blood pressure, so after months of continuance high blood pressure, they referred Daveon to a heart specialist. The heart specialist said the heart was good so they referred him to a kidney specialist. On December 4th, 2013, the family met with a nephrologist and on that day, they were given life changing information. A biopsy of Davon and Daveon’s kidneys showed they were shutting down. They were diagnosed with a Chronic Kidney Disease called Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis. Daveon has kidneys that are only functioning at FIVE percent and Davon has a TWELVE percent function in his kidneys. Both are now in NEED of new kidneys! Daveon’s girlfriend has the same blood type and selflessly wants to give him one of her kidneys but the organs have to match. If everything matches and works, she plans to donate her kidney. If not, the boys will keep waiting on the donor list.

The boys have been traveling from Niagara Falls to Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo for numerous medical appointments. Daveon comes to the Dialysis Unit every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for dialysis. Davon comes to the dialysis unit every Wednesday. Daveon currently attends school two days a week and the other days he has home instruction. Even through  this adverse situation, Daveon is focused on getting his transplant, achieving his dream of becoming a professional football player and post career plans of becoming a sports agent. Davon Cook is a very charismatic and charming kid, full of Life and positivity. Because of his fistula (Abnormal connection between an organ, vessel, or intestine and another structure line) he had to stop playing football. His belief is once he receives his Kidney transplant he will also become a professional football player.

The boys as well as their mother remain very positive and optimistic despite having to travel from Niagara Falls to Children's Hospital as much as they are required to. They both keep each other positive and optimistic even when the days aren't as bright. Their mother continues to keep her options open as transplants for the pediatric population are not done in the Buffalo area. Both Daveon and Davon will also be traveling to and from Rochester in preparation for a kidney transplant. Their mother Charmain Upshaw has a desire to increase awareness of chronic kidney disease.

Due to the numerous appointments for both boys, their mother is unable to maintain full time employment. She continues to remain a primary support for them and over the next coming months, she will not be able to work due to their needed care. Travel expenses as well as ensuring that housing is stable and day to day living expenses are covered, the mother has suffered a loss of income due to the aforementioned circumstances.

I have started a foundation for the mother and the family to help her maintain some financial income during this difficult time and for some time after to keep them comfortable. Once the goal is met, all donations will go to the mother and the boys. If you can help with any donation that will help get a dollar closer to the goal. A couple dollars can help save FUTURE FATHERS and help a mother prosper.

READ and SHARE their link and full story to all friends, family, colleagues, social media etc. Thank you for your time, help and support. It is very much appreciated. Stay Blessed!
