On May 28. 2017, my husband Darrell Marshall woke up Sunday morning to get ready for church.

This was a very important Sunday because he was scheduled to speak at Fairfield Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia.   Shortly after getting dressed, Darrell collapsed in the bedroom where I discovered him.   Immediately I called 911 and he was rushed to Gwinnett Medical Hospital.  Here, doctors communicated to me that Darrell's prognosis was grim and that he had suffered a massive stroke.

Since his stroke, Darrell has had numerous peaks and valleys.  Currently, the biggest hurdle facing him is cost-effective and timely transportation for his numerous medical appointments.   As his wife, it’s my prayer that Darrell's post-stroke recovery process is not interrupted by financial hurdles.

For this reason, we are reaching out to you to help with this journey using the “Darrell Marshall Go Fund Me Campaign”.   Any donation will be appreciated and used accordingly to secure a van with a motorized wheelchair lift and medical supplies for his post-stroke recovery at home.  It’s our family’s desire to give Darrell his best chance possible to have access to the resources he needs.

 Additional Background Details

When Darrell was hospitalized a year ago, our family learned that there are two types of strokes: Hemorrhagic and Ischemic.  Darrell suffered a Hemorrhagic Stroke.   Although Hemorrhagic strokes only account for roughly 15% of all stroke cases, it has the highest incidence of mortality within the first 30 days of its occurrence.  The doctors also informed us that blood vessels inside of Darrell's brain had burst and leaked blood into the surrounding brain tissue. Unfortunately for Darrell, the blood vessel obliteration was so massive, that it left a golf-ball size space within the left hemisphere of Darrell's brain.

The severe bleeding caused many brain cells to die and resulted in parts of Darrell's brain to cease its normal functioning capacity.   Darrell, as a result of the stroke, was left not only blind but also could not move any of his limbs. He continuously had bleeding from the craniotomy drainage tube that had been drilled into his skull in order to relieve pressure.

The hospital staff encouraged the family to pray and to be prepared to make some tough decisions for Darrell in regard to his health and long-term care. As a result, friends, family and Fairfield Baptist Church members prayed over him incessantly and day by day his brain and body began to heal.

Darrell stayed in the Neuro ICU for 5 consecutive weeks and then transferred to long-term acute care for 8 months prior to being discharged to come home.  Since his diagnosis a year ago Darrell has progressed more than what doctors ever expected.  Darrell now has his vision and has some movement of his limbs.  It's simply a miracle that he is still here and still with us. His road to recovery has been a marathon and it’s my desire that he continue to be successful with his journey.

Presently, Darrell cannot fully support his torso's weight 100% of the time. There are very few qualifying companies that can routinely transport him to his numerous medical appointments. The ambulance transportation services that can accommodate Darrell's medical needs require an out of pocket cost of $800-$1,000 round trip unless you meet the government financial assistance requirements.  Darrell, as well as many other Americans, do not meet these stringent requirements.

Additionally, the ambulance providers are never on time due to Traffic in the surrounding metro area and competing appointments with other patients they provide service to.   Having consistent access to adequate medical transportation will be supportive of his physical therapy appointments and ensure a faster recovery.

God has seen fit to spare Darrell's life and I truly believe that He has a Divine purpose for his life and I am asking and praying that you will be led to give to Darrell's cause in order to help us. Please say a prayer for the Marshall family if you are a believer.  Thank you for your time, support and sincere concern.

May God continue to bless you, always!!!
