Daphney's Back Surgery

Donation protected
Update 1/11: I just received a call from the neurologist and Daphney is doing so great after the surgery that they are going to release her this afternoon! It's the best birthday present I could ask for!!! She's already gaining strength in her back legs again! Thank you all for your continued support <3

Update: After all of Daphney's tests today, the neurologist found that the herniated discs in her back are calcified and surgically removing them is the only option to get her walking again. She said that normally the area around the discs is a jelly-like substance but a couple of Daphney's are like hardened tooth paste. The calcification is in her spinal canal and causing 50-60% paralysis. The buildup looks to have started when she was about 1 and she's now 6. She also put her in the 95 percentile for a full recovery! Her surgery is scheduled for noon tomorrow so send some positive vibes our way <3

On Christmas Eve, Daphney woke up with hind end paralysis. Dachshunds and other long bodied, short legged dogs are very prone to back problems because of their build.
I took her to multiple vets, tried many suggested remedies (strict crate rest, different medications, laser therapy) but nothing seemed to be working. She's still her happy little self but gets frustrated because she doesn't understand why her legs aren't working. Her favorite thing in the world is going for walks.
On January 9th, we met with a neurologist. She showed me that Daphney was still in pain and not making the progress she should've been and suggested back surgery. A million thoughts were going through my head and after what felt like an eternity, I decided to go with the surgery. It's scheduled for tomorrow morning (January 10th). This little dog means the world to me so I was willing to do whatever it takes to get her walking again. The staff at Veterinary Neurological Center is amazing! I know she's in great hands. The vet also felt very confident that she's going to make a full recovery with the surgery.
I'm the type of person that struggles asking for help but sometimes things happen that are out of your control. I appreciate any help you can give, whether it's a donation or sharing this page.
