Danny Ray “Baldy” Rowsey, 49 passed away August 2, 2017 due to complications after an accident on June 9, 2017.
He was born in Clearwater, Fl and was a longtime resident of Gainesville, Fl. A mechanic by trade, with a wealth of knowledge and could fix anything and would do anything for anybody. He loved to play golf and loved to watch other sports on TV. He loved his family and is survived by his wife of 30 years Cheryl Gillis Rowsey together they raised two great sons Colton Ray (Octavia) Rowsey, and Clinton Owen Rowsey, a niece, Jaime Danielle Killough of Destin, his 2nd mother Sabra Messer of Ohio, two brothers Roger (Michelle) Lambert of Clearwater, Robert (Cassandra) Lambert of Brooksville, sister Lucia Adams of West Virginia, Step mom, Betty Lambert of Brooksville; also, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Roger Lambert, mother Patricia Ann Hunt, grandmother Mary Rowsey, and a sister Tina Marie Shoemaker.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 10th at 5:00 P. M, in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St., with the family receiving friends for one hour prior, beginning at 4:00 P. M. In lieu of flowers please make a donation.

On June 9th my husband (Danny Rowsey) had a very serious accident. While trimming limbs from a tree that had fallen during a storm, he fell through a skylight and landed 20 feet below hitting the side of a pick-up truck and then onto a concrete slab. Danny is a loyal, loving father and husband. He would help anyone and never ask for anything in return. He has a great support system with his family and friends.
His injuries are critical -- Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, scapular/clavicle and sternum broken, crushed his inner ear bone and multiple facial fractures, also cracked several ribs that punctured his lungs. He has been unconscious since the fall and the doctors are unable to give us a timeframe for when he will wake up--it may be weeks or months. He has spent three weeks in ICU trauma unit and has had 4 surgeries and also 2 bouts with pneumonia.
Danny has been evaluated by a Neurology psychologist and was scored at 3 on the Rancho Scale. The Rancho Scale is used to measure the progress of a patient's recovery. The levels range from one to 10. Level one is where the patient has no response to stimuli whereas a patient at level 10 is alert, responsive and oriented.
He has been placed in a medical facility for highly monitored medical treatment until he wakes from being unconscious to prepare him for transfer to Brooks Brain and Spinal Center in Jacksonville, FL, this rehab could take 18 months to 2 years. The treatment our father will receive will be determine on when he regains consciousness. We live in Gainesville, FL and our mother plans to accompany him. The doctor says that having a family member there with him will make the recovery go smoother.
While a price can’t be put on the cost of the emotional and physical issues that arise as a result of a brain injury, a price can be put on the financial burden that results from a brain injury. The monetary cost of brain injuries varies significantly — it’s estimated that a mild head injury costs $85,000, a moderate injury costs $941,000, and a severe injury costs $3 million.
Annual Costs of Brain Injury in the U.S.
Overall, it is estimated that the cost of traumatic brain injuries in the United States weighs in at $48.3 billion annually. About $31.7 billion of that is spent on hospitalization costs, while the additional $16.6 billions goes toward costs associated with fatalities.
According to the Center for Disease Control, acute care and rehabilitation of brain injury patients in the United States costs about $9 billion to $10 billion per year. This does not include indirect costs to society as well as to families, including costs associated with lost earnings, work time, and productivity, as well as the costs linked to providing social services.
Lifetime Cost of Brain Injury
While costs vary according to the extent of the injury and its specific long-term effects, it is estimated that the cost of caring for a survivor of severe traumatic brain injury is between $600,000 and $1,875,000 over a lifetime.
