The Dan Stasz Recovery Fund

Donation protected
In late April, local cyclist Dan Stasz had an accident while out on a training ride. It was a simple fall, one that could happen to any of us, but the accident caused a central cord injury, which is spine trauma. The injury resulted in Dan being paralyzed from the neck down. While the good news is that you can recover from this type of injury, the harder news is that the recovery is long, and often very expensive.  Dan’s condition was great going into the accident; the guy is strong,  and the care he received from Baystate Medical Center and the rehab he has been receiving at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare has meant he has made great improvements and is in the right direction. He is now able to shake his legs and move his arms with limited mobility. Much of his rehabilitation is now spent re-teaching his body’s muscles to fire properly.

It is important for Dan to continue to get the best possible rehabilitation care.  At this point, his insurance that covers the level of care he has received at Gaylord has run its course and he will be moved.  His next facility will have care, but it will have gaps and we’d like to close those.

If you have ever had the pleasure of having Dan be your lead out, wingman, dive buddy, or the guy who always shows up – no matter the weather, adventure, party or task, please consider contributing anything you can to help him get the care he needs. Thank you.
