Dan and Katie Jacks' Vacation Fund

Happy 40th Anniversary to my beautiful, amazing, wonderful parents! Dan and Katie were married in 1973 at the tender ages of 19 and 23. Their love, commitment, faith, persistence and incredible hard work has kept them together ever since. They raised 5 children and worked very hard to be the best parents and role models that they possibly could. My siblings and I truly could not ask for better parents. They have sacrificed everything they have and everything they are to make sure we know we are loved.


As many of you know, the last several years have not been easy for them. My father's business has struggled greatly as bigger chain health food stores hit the market and regular grocery stores began carrying health foods at a much cheaper price than he could afford at his tiny, family owned store. Then, in 2004 my brother became severely ill with what was finally diagnosed as late-stage Lyme disease. Fighting the insurance companies for coverage for 9 years of incredibly expensive medical bills and caring for my almost completely bed-bound brother around the clock has been more than most parents could have managed- but Dan and Katie continue to trust in God and persevere throughout it all.


However, with all of the insanity that has ensued in the past decade, life has left little quality time for my parents to spend together. Even during times when tight finances and life stresses were not center stage, this is a pair of incredibly generous, giving people and they have always put others ahead of themselves. But this leaves a couple who has stuck it out for 40 years who also has not been on a vacation together in YEARS. And I mean YEEEEAAARRRRSSS. So in lieu of gifts or flowers (or even personal checks, which they would no doubt spend on something other than themselves) for this very special anniversary, I would like to ask that you consider donating to "Dan and Katie Jacks' 40th Anniversary Vacation Fund"! Depending on the amount of money raised, my parents are thinking about anything from a long weekend trip to the mountains in a nice remote cabin to their ultimate dream, an Alaskan Cruise! This will mean so, SO much to them- and believe me, this is a couple who deserve it.
