This film is the heroic story of Bosnia's youth,
left to find their own way through a post-conflict landscape.Thousands of orphaned children grew up in shelters and state
institutions. Those who still have families often live with parents
suffering the violent effects of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Others have lost loved ones to mental illness, drug addiction and
imprisonment. For all these children, the war has never ended.
Using animation alongside beautifully shot documentary footage, BETWEEN TWO MOUNTAINS follows the stories of four young people who've survived against incredible odds - exposing the ongoing consequences of war for the next generation.
We are currently in the last week of our final 4 week shoot in Bosnia Herzegovina . We have seen all our characters go through great change. We have filmed in Croatia, Sweden and Bosnia and have captured the tears and laughs of these four inspiring young people over the last 10 months of their lives.
We are developing our outreach strategy for the film and are interested in creating partnerships with organisations working on children's rights in post-conflict zones. We have a working partnership with the Bosana Foundation in Bosnia which provides on-the-ground support, education and scholarships to young people from disadvantaged and war-torn backgrounds in Bosnia Herzegovina. We also have Warchild UK who are very interested in using the film as a tool for outreach in screenings for their partners such as UNICEF. We are currently approaching many other similar organisations we think could use this film as an effective awareness-raising tool for anyone involved in implementing policy or working in post-conflict areas.
We have many plans for the film in terms of outreach. Apart from broadcast, cinema and international festival screenings, we are committed to making sure this film is seen by as many people as possible to raise awareness of the effects of war on children. Within Bosnia, we plan to arrange mobile screenings for groups of young people and those who care for them. From orphanages to shelters, schools and youth clubs, we would like to tour the film around the country, engaging the support of those who are living out the effects of war on a daily basis. We aim to raise funds through the film for the Bosana Foundation's ongoing work.
On a policy/global level, we would like to get the film translated into several different languages to ensure the scope of the project reaches as many post-war nations as possible. We are particularly interested in engaging with those who will be deployed in Syria, once the conflict there ends "“ either on the ground or in making policy. Without happy and healthy young people, a nation can not heal "“ this film will ring alarm bells about the lack of support available to children in countries devastated by war and, we hope, instigate policy change and the deployment of aid.

To make their film, Between Two Mountains, they are following the lives of five teenagers as they struggle to overcome the legacy of war in Bosnia.
The film doesn't flinch from tackling what happened in the conflict, but it does so with sensitivity and strength: the horror of discovering you were conceived through rape; the post traumatic stress that spreads through families; the relationships between children and parents who were found guilty of genocide; the power of forgiveness; and above all, the strength, resilience and inspiration of humanity.
