Help Archie!

On September 28th, just 1 day after Anne got home from the hospital after her heart attack, she was called by one of our local Connecticut Animal Control Officers about a severely neglected Dachshund (which she immediately agreed to take).  Archie had been a part of a legal neglect case, a "pet" left outside in a small crate in someone's yard, emaciated and severely malnourished. He had stayed in the town's care a few weeks while the case progressed, and was well on his way to wellness when we got him. A few days after the ACO called, on October 3, 2014, Archie came to us- still underweight, with no hair on his ears from oil buildup, and his coat was soft and light red- all dead hair. Archie was great the first few weeks with us, highly adoptable- very friendly, quiet and sweet, however around the last week of October Archie's energy level decreased and he held his head low and stiff.  It turned out Archie had a ruptured C2-C3 disk in his upper neck which required immediate surgery on November 18th.
