In march of 2017 Dan started to have issues, first it was a feeling of food getting stuck then it was to the point where he wasn't eating much so doctors appointment was made. After numerous referrals to a GI doctor and no one having appointments open we finally ended up in ER. Well they found a large gallstone and so we thought well that is it with all of other minor symptoms, So dan had his gall bladder removed, after 2 weeks it was back, pain was worse and he was starting other symptoms we never had before so back to the doctor again. At this point it was the same wait game for getting into a GI doctor so i started calling every GI office to see who would take him now. After meeting with GI doctor she set him up for a endyscope, within 20 minutes she new she sat with Dan and myself and gave us the heartbreaking news. Dan has Adenocarcinoma stage 3 with attachment to lymph nodes. Main tumor is in his Esophagus
After that things started to move fast, numerous test the accurate  stage and discussions on what treatment was avaliable. We  finished treatment and faced more issues florida was getting hit by cat 5 hurricane name Irma  We fled for the storm cause dan need AC he could not be with out it anther expense we did not need even though it was a good rest, but we had to go  back to having a repeat Pet scan and it was good news this time, The tumor went from 18.6 to 3.5 so surgery should take out the rest. So surgery was set for October 23 it would be the start of the change for Dan so we thought. After a 8 hrs surgery  and loosing half of his esophgus and 1/4 of his stomachto see dan open his eyes was a blessing but knowing his stomach now sat in middle of his chest was scaring him.  As 24 hrs went buy dan nightmare grew to something we never saw coming.  dan was  not able to breath on his own and had to be intabated. To see my husband put into a medical induced coma was more then I could bare or his mother and father that were present. After numerous days he finally was able to loose that tube but we did not expect him to have to rely on oxygen to help him breath.
8 days had gone by when dan felt well enough to get up and go to bathroom when the nurses had to call code again cause dan lost control of breathing again except this time he just got higher oxygen but test reveiled he had to have left lung drained cause it filled up with fluid. I kept on saying to myself how much more can he take.
Day 10 in hosptial dan's oncologist called. Was not the news I wanted to hear but she was prepping me cause she said please keep dan calm when i explain this news cause with his breathing issues we need hime to be strong.
Day 11 at hosptial dan was feeling better that day after the draining of fluid in lung and I told him his oncologist would be calling him to give path report news but be prepared its not good, he just looked at me with tears and said where is it now. I told him it had spread to the Vascular Lymph node its like a tree, the trunk is the stem for lymph track and branches are the lymph nodes well the cancer was found inside the trunk and then oncologist told us no surgery can be done only chemo. The chemo he will get is a brutal treatment he has 3 days of chemo one day at office and then on a pump at home for 48 hours. She explained that the chemo he did in beginning was one kind but this one will kick his butt cause he is weak from all the first treatment of chemo and radation and then the surgery and now the lung issues.  Dan never said anything.
Day 12 homecoming from hosptial, Little overwhelming for him but he was a strong tropper, with help of a walker that was donated to him by a very dear friend and a lift chair bought for him by his parents I thought he would be ok but having some much oxygen in house for him was the scarey part for him.  The next day was his breaking point. He looked at me and said I don't deserve this I don't want to die, why is this happening to me. I sat and held him in my arms and for the first time I watch this man I love so much loose his breaking point and he was like a little boy in my arms. We cried together and wiped each others tears and we prayed together and aske god for his guidance and healing.
Now the new treatment is going to start in about a month and we have to get jump start on rasing funds for this, We cant afford the co pays and we hate to even ask for help but there are so much more to it then just going to office for chemo, he has to have monthly, CT scans MRI  Weekly Blood, Oxygen supply, Perscriptions that are not covered all the way the list goes on and on and the oncologist said there might get to a point where i cant work cause he will be to ill to leave alone and Dan's insurance does not cover nurse. The list hosptial gave us for cancer society was a joke out of 30 companies we contacted for help every singel one said they wont have funding for 6 months cause there out of money. Local help is a bigger joke, no money.. Her is the kicker Applied for Food stamps, they said the money gets on disbality only allows him to get 15 dollars on food stamps. So we have no other choice to make this page pray we get the help we need and ask all of you to reach deep in your heart and help Dan.
