Friends of the DR Marching Band

The Dighton Rehoboth Marching Band has been invited to represent the State of Massachusetts at the 2014 National Independence Day Parade in our nation's capital. The honor of playing for the President of the United States and marching in the National parade is not lost on our band members, their parents, and our school. The band was recommended by the Mayor of a neighboring community to the committee and we were selected from some 100 applicants. The cost of traveling and staying in Washington is, however, our responsibility and we find ourselves having to ask for help from the community and organizations throughout the state to raise the $40,000 needed to attend. We are no strangers to working hard to support this band as it is a zero line item to the school district. The band consists of 120 hard working children ranging from 7th grade to 12th grade. This band is filled with amazing children some with special needs, social issues, and physical issues, but they are part of the band as one. The children support each other and work hard to include everyone who is a member of the band. As ambassadors of the state we take great pride in sounding and looking as good as possible and the band practices very hard multiple days a week all year long.

Every little bit helps to defray the cost for the kids who know what an honor it is to have been selected to participate in such a memorable and honorable event.
