CrazyLake presents "Bye Bye Birdie"

After six years of presenting quality theatrical productions such as "Steel Magnolias", "The Nerd" and "Laughter on the 23rd Floor", the CrazyLake Acting Company is ready to step into the world of musical theatre with a July, 2014, production of "Bye Bye Birdie".
Our vision for "Bye Bye Birdie" is two-fold: to create a community musical, where: a) families can come out together to audition and perform; and b) families can attend together to enjoy the performance. We've been laying the groundwork for months, with audition announcements, rehearsals schedules, and set and costumes designs.
We're learning a lot of hands-on lessons about the differences between plays and musicals, such as the necessity for a directing team that includes an acting director (Christine Schaefer) and a musical director (Amy Studabaker). We're studying lighting design and developing set-building strategies that allow for speedy and efficient scene changes--and we're learning that there are a lot more details to presenting a musical than there are to presenting a play.
The first lesson we learned, however, is that musicals cost far more than plays--and to reach our goal of being able to present this musical, and more in the future, we need help. We are hoping to raise $3000 to cover the cost of royalties, orchestration tracks, and facility rental. If we can reach this goal, and get our initial musical production funded, then we believe that our show revenues will enable us to continue presenting an annual musical as part of the CrazyLake theatrical season.
