Cranksgiving: Bike Ride/Food Drive

Donation protected
The Heavy Haulers are BACK, and we're ready to pack the food pantry to the max once again!

Team Heavy Haulers is participating in Boston's annual Cranksgiving Bike Ride/Food Drive to benefit:

- Somerville Homeless Coalition
- Red Cross
- MSPCA
- Food Not Bombs
- Rosie's Place

Cranksgiving is a bicycle powered food drive. Your fundraising donation will help us purchase food from supermarkets all over Boston, then we'll use our cargo bikes to bring the food to the various food banks.

The 2015 Boston Cranksgiving ride was recordbreaking. We delivered 10,110 pounds of food by bike. These efforts set the record for:

- Largest food donation ever to the Somerville Homeless Coalition (2015)
- Largest cat food donation ever to the MSPCA Cats-giving food drive. (2015)
- Largest non-institutional food donation ever to the Greater Boston Food Bank (2014)

This year, we're aiming to break our own records.

This grass roots event allows the Boston cycling community to give back to the neighborhoods we ride in and the city we love by providing food security to people in need in our community.

In 2015, Team Heavy Haulers used cargo bikes, bicycle trailers, backpacks, panniers, & baskets to haul approximately 10,000 pounds of food. But this year we're aiming to DOUBLE that amount. This huge undertaking will require raising more money (and more participants) than ever before. With your help, we can make it happen. Your donation will dramatically increase the amount of food we can provide.

Why is this important? Since 2003, food insecurity has increased 71% in Massachusetts, resulting in over 375,000 homes where regular meals are not guaranteed (source: Project Bread). This is the time of year to give thanks, and to think of others who need food assistance.

Our Promise: No matter how tired our legs get, Team Heavy Haulers will not stop hauling food on our bikes until every last cent is spent and all groceries make it into the hands of those in need.

The ride is November 12th! So please don't delay in making a donation.

If you want to join the ride (on our team or form your own team) you can learn more at the Cranksgiving Event Page .
