My name is Victor Lupenui Corpuz,

My mom is Akela Lupenui Bonifacio. She struggled with a series of diabetes complications for over 15 years. Everyone who knows my mom knows that she has a fighting spirit. I've seen her claw her way back from near death many times. Unfortunately, my mom’s body eventually became too weak to fight back even though her spirit was still strong. She passed away on February 3, 2018, from heart failure.

My mother was my best friend. She picked me up whenever I was down. She encouraged me to be the best I can whenever I was feeling insecure. She loved me unconditionally, supported my interests and gave freely from her heart. We laughed and we cried together. She knew when to be stern and when to be a friend. She taught me to work hard and to always be grateful for what I had. She taught me to love myself and the power of prayer; to have courage and to always be kind to others. I’m grateful that she was my mother. If there is such a thing as reincarnation, I will choose her to be my mom again.

A year before my mother's passing, I moved to Las Vegas to help my dad take care of her. It wasn't a difficult decision to make because it felt like the right thing. My mom had made many sacrifices for our family over the years. How could I not do the same? So I packed up my Jeep and headed to Las Vegas.

As soon as I got to Vegas I hit the ground running but quickly learned that this was not going to be an easy task. Being a full-time caretaker made it difficult for me to continue giving my parents the financial support I had given in the past. Soon my savings ran out.  Before I could rebuild my savings, my mom’s health deteriorated and after 2 long months in the hospital we lost her.

My family needs help to grant my mother her last wish of returning her home to Hawaii.  My goal is to raise $10,000 to cover all funeral expenses and help my father heal from the loss of my mother without the worry of mounting medical bills and other financial burdens.

Because my mom recently passed, the need for donations is urgent. Any amount of donation will truly help and be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, thank you for taking the time to read and share this message.
