Corey's Crohn's Warriors

Donation protected
My dear friend Corey Stahl was diagnosed with Crohn’s/Colitis at the age of 16. This is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the digestive tract and can cause life-threatening complications. For years she has bravely managed the symptoms of this debilitating disease as best she could. Sadly, this past year has been nothing short of a nightmare for Corey, her husband Eric, and their two precious baby girls.

Due to the unbearable symptoms Corey has experienced, she has been house bound for the majority of the year.  In February, she was first hospitalized under the impression she was going in for IV medication, but unfortunately was surprised to learn she would be leaving with an ileostomy (where the small intestine is diverted through an opening in the abdomen), causing a dramatic life change.  While Corey was adjusting to life with an ostomy, she developed complications and required emergency corrective surgery. Since "recovering" from that surgery, Corey has been experiencing excruciating unexplained pain for months.

Five weeks in the hospital, 2 major surgeries, many ER visits and ambulance rides, recoveries, a multitude of symptoms and continual pain have been devastating.  Corey and Eric recently returned from the Mayo Clinic, #1 in GI Surgery in the U.S., where she experienced extensive testing and learned she will need at least 1 or 2 more surgeries.  They will soon be traveling back to Mayo for surgery consultations and with the hope of finally finding the cause of her pain.

The family is prideful. The fact that this has become Corey & Eric's horrifying reality, with no end in sight, is tremendously hard on them and their girls.  They have somehow managed to keep their heads above water while exhausting all financial options. The financial, physical, and emotional stress is hitting them hard and sadly right now the future is still unknown.  Corey's lifelong dream was to marry the love of her life and have a beautiful family, and she did exactly that with Eric as a dedicated and loving husband, but adjusting to life as a "sick" wife and mommy has been devastating. She has applied for as many benefits as possible, as well as disability, but these can take years to be approved.  Corey is spending all of her time and energy with her husband and girls focusing on trying to get well and creating some type of a new "normal."

Eric has only been able to work 3 months of this past year because he is needed at home to care for Corey and their girls.  Any income they had, has ceased. And so, deductibles, any and all hospital and doctor bills, medications, living expenses and essentials for the children will be an impossibility.

This family will forever be grateful for your generosity and will be most happy to Pay it Forward.

Thank you in advance for your love, kindness and generosity.
