Cora's Corner

Donation protected
Cora Neary was born on March 18, 2020 and diagnosed with Esophageal Atresia. Cora has never been home and has been living in both the ICU and critical care units since she was born. Cora's parents Stephen & Anika have been travelling from Belleville to CHEO in Ottawa on a rotating schedule even with a four year old son at home to be with Cora full time.

I do my best to support them during this hard time but I need your help! I want to make sure that Stephen & Anika have a comfortable place to stay when they are in Ottawa and that they are able to support their growing family. Cora will be having a major surgery in the near future and any contributions will be greatly appreciated. There is no timetable for how long Cora will remain in the hospital. Cora's family have been running on empty for a while and the contributions will help make sure that Cora's family is right there by her side until she comes home.

Despite Cora's challenges she is always smiling, fighting, and working hard to leave the hospital one day. One day I hope to meet Cora in person and see my best friend bring his daughter home. Please, anything you can contribute goes a very long way and is felt by the family. We would love to have you in Cora's corner!

A little about the condition... Esophageal Atresia is a very rare condition when the esophagus has two separate sections, the upper and lower esophagus, that do not connect. Cora cannot eat like you or I as she cannot eat with her mouth but is rather fed through a tube through her stomach.  Cora is unable to swallow her saliva which requires a vacuum tube to extract all of the fluid build up, this tube keeps Cora alive and ensures she doesn't suffocate. Cora has already had multiple surgeries and has been medically paralyzed and sedated to help make her better. However, not all of the surgeries have been successful which has prolonged Cora's time in the hospital. Cora has not had the chance to experience life as a typical baby and her parents are doing their best to help her manage under these circumstances. Caring for Cora is a 24 hour job.

All the best! Thanks for reading.
